A title belt looks simple from the cheap seats. It has a big center plate, two side plates, and a strap. Pick one up and you find out how many choices sit inside it.
This guide covers the MMA championship belt, the kind a champion wears, not the colored rank belts some gyms hand out for grappling skill. We make each MMA championship belt in Sialkot, Pakistan. I’ll show you how we build them, what they weigh, and what they cost.
I’ll also tell you where cheap belts cut corners. You’ll get our real prices and weights, not marketing ranges.
Key Takeaways
- An MMA championship belt is metal plates on a leather strap. Plate metal and thickness set the weight and the price.
- Our full-size belts weigh about 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) with 2mm brass plates and over 3 kg (6.6 lb) with 4mm plates. The design changes the exact number.
- In our experience, brass outlasts zinc, and zinc costs more.
- Gold color comes from plating. A “24K gold” claim on a cheap belt is a warning sign.

What Is an MMA Championship Belt Made Of?
An MMA championship belt is a set of metal plates mounted on a leather strap. The plates are usually brass or zinc alloy, finished with gold-tone or silver plating.
Here are the parts, from the front of the belt:
- Center plate: the large plate with the main design
- Side plates: the smaller plates on each side of the strap
- Strap: the leather band that holds everything together
- Stones: small inlays set into the plates
- Plating: the gold or silver finish over the bare metal

The center plate and side plates
The plates are the heavy part of the belt. We make ours from brass or zinc alloy in 2mm, 3mm, or 4mm thickness. A full-size MMA championship belt has a center plate and either 2 or 4 side plates.
For scale, UFC lists its Legacy belt’s center plate at 11.5 by 9.5 inches.
The strap
We offer real or artificial leather, and we tell you which one you’re getting. Real leather lasts longer. The two look about the same when new.
Most of our straps run 48 to 52 inches, and we change the length on request. UFC lists its Legacy belt at 50 inches.
Stones and inlays: glass vs. cubic zirconia
We set glass stones in the plates. We fix them with super glue or another suitable adhesive.
UFC’s own Legacy belt uses cubic zirconia and created ruby. Real cubic zirconia would push our belts past $200, so we stay with glass and say so.
How Is an MMA Title Belt Made? Our Process in Sialkot
We build a title belt in five steps. We approve the design, form the plates, plate the metal, set the stones, and mount everything on the strap. The full job takes 10 to 15 working days.
- Approve the design. For custom belts, we send a mockup first, and you pay only after you approve it.
- Form the plates. We either etch the design into a brass or zinc plate or cast the plate in a mold.
- Plate the metal. We plate in our own workshop in gold, silver, or two-tone.
- Set the stones. We glue glass stones into the plate.
- Mount the plates. We attach the plates to the strap you chose.

Big-name belts follow similar stages. WWE’s belt makers, for example, cast plates from tin, electroplate them, and finish them by hand. You can see each stage of our own work on our process for custom orders page.
Etching vs. mold casting: what’s the difference?
Etching puts the design into a flat plate of brass or zinc. Mold casting pours liquid metal into a die, so the plate takes the die’s shape.
A cast plate has a fixed size. Etching lets us change the artwork and the shape for each order, so custom shapes like an octagon go through etching. We can’t copy another maker’s cast plate without their die.
How Thick Should Belt Plates Be, and How Much Does an MMA Championship Belt Weigh?
Plate thickness drives most of the weight. Our full-size belts weigh about 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) with 2mm brass plates and over 3 kg (6.6 lb) with 4mm plates.
| Plate thickness | Metal | Approximate finished weight |
|---|---|---|
| 2mm | Brass | About 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) |
| 3mm | Brass | Over 2 kg (4.4 lb) |
| 4mm | Brass | Over 3 kg (6.6 lb) |
| 4mm | Zinc | Over 3 kg (6.6 lb) |
These are rough figures. The final weight depends on the design and how much metal it uses.

Published weights vary a lot, so compare with care:
- UFC’s official Legacy belt: 10.45 lb (4.7 kg)
- UFC’s official Legacy replica: about 8 lb
- A 2019 news article on the UFC belt: 5.5 lb
Three sources give three weights. Plate thickness, plate size, and the amount of metal in the design all change the number. Ask a seller for the thickness in millimeters first, then the weight.
Brass or Zinc: Which Belt Plate Lasts Longer?
In our experience, brass lasts longer than zinc. Brass is stronger and holds up longer, and zinc costs a bit more.
Many sellers call zinc the best plate metal. We make both, and we still recommend brass for a belt you want to keep for years. Finished belts come out close in weight, so weight shouldn’t decide it.

Is an MMA Championship Belt Made of Real Gold?
Not as a whole belt. UFC describes the logo at the center of its Legacy belt as high-polished gold, and its stones as cubic zirconia and created ruby. Its description doesn’t call the belt solid gold.
Our gold color is gold-tone plating, done in our own workshop. We skip 24K gold plating because it costs too much for belts at our prices. On request, we can arrange real gold plating through an outside plater, but it costs extra and we can’t guarantee the result.
One 2019 news article claimed UFC belts carry about 2 pounds of gold. Official UFC replicas list 24K gold and silver plating at about $850. A belt that claims 24K gold at a much lower price is a warning sign.
How Much Does a Custom MMA Belt Cost?
Our etched MMA championship belts cost about $123 to $180 each, with shipping included. Official UFC replicas cost far more, up to about $850.
| Belt | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Our etched belt, 2mm brass | €110 (about $123) | Single belt, shipping included |
| Our etched belt, 3mm brass | €133 (about $149) | Single belt, shipping included |
| Our etched belt, 4mm brass | €148 (about $166) | Single belt, shipping included |
| Our etched belt, 4mm zinc | €161 (about $180) | Single belt, shipping included |
| Our mold-cast belt | €143 (about $160) | Fixed plate size, shipping included |
| Marketplace replica, 2mm brass plates | $149.99 | One Walmart listing, checked October 2026 |
| Official UFC replicas | $499.99 to $849.99 | UFC Store prices, as listed by Elite Sports |
| Custom belt from one US maker | $150 to over $1,000 | That maker’s published range |
Dollar amounts use 1 euro = $1.12. Our prices include an artificial leather strap. Real leather adds about $20.
Four things move the price: plate thickness, metal, design, and quantity. Zinc costs more than brass at the same thickness, and a complex design uses more metal and more work. Larger orders lower the price per belt, and we quote those after we see your design.

How Do You Spot a Cheap MMA Championship Belt?
Check the plate thickness, the leather, and the photos. Ask to see the actual belt, because cheap belts usually fail on one of those.
- Plate thickness: Some sellers claim a thickness the plates don’t have. Ask for the number in millimeters, then a close photo of the plate edge beside a caliper.
- Leather: Cheap leather cracks and peels early. Ask whether the strap is real or artificial.
- Storage: Some sellers make belts in bulk and store them badly. Humid storage tarnishes and corrodes the metal before the belt ships.
- Borrowed photos: Some sellers use someone else’s photos. Ask for a photo of the actual belt with your name and the date on paper beside it. For in-stock belts, we send that photo and a video before you pay.
- Gold claims: A low price with “24K gold” in the title is a reason to ask questions.

How Long Does a Custom MMA Championship Belt Take?
A custom belt takes 10 to 15 working days to make. DHL shipping adds 4 to 6 working days.
We take orders of one belt, so you don’t need a bulk order. Gyms and promotions in Europe, the UK, and Australia order from us.
You reserve a custom belt on our custom order page with no payment. We message you on WhatsApp within 12 hours with a design mockup, and you pay only after you approve it. Our FAQs cover shipping, duties, and payment.
Why we won’t build a belt from an AI-generated image
Many customers send us images made with AI and ask for a belt that matches. AI images miss details a real belt needs.
We tell you what we can really build, starting with the first message. We don’t promise every detail in the picture.
How Should You Store and Protect a Title Belt?
Keep the belt in open air, away from high humidity. Humidity wears plating fastest.
In humid weather, run a fan so air keeps moving around the belt. Plating lasts from months to years, depending on how you keep it.
Championship Belt FAQs
Do UFC fighters keep their belts?
Yes. The UFC Legacy belt stays with the fighter, and UFC adds new title wins to the same belt.
How long is a championship belt strap?
Our standard strap runs 48 to 52 inches, and we change the length on request. UFC lists its Legacy belt at 50 inches.
What’s the difference between an authentic and a replica belt?
An authentic belt goes to a champion. Makers build replicas for fans and collectors. UFC’s authentic Legacy belt carries a champion’s name and a serial number, while replicas use different construction.
At our workshop, replica belts copy a known design, and custom belts follow your own artwork.
Can I order just one custom belt?
Yes. We take orders of one belt, with no bulk minimum. Allow 10 to 15 working days to make it, plus 4 to 6 working days for DHL.
To start a custom belt, request a mockup on our custom order page. We reply on WhatsApp within 12 hours.
